I’m a publication designer, running Hot Ice Creative Studio since 2008. I focus on editorial-grade publication design and data visualization for think tanks, foundations, and research institutions.
My background combines design with an information technology degree, which shapes how I approach complex publications — particularly those involving data, technical content, or structured reasoning. Over the years, I’ve also worked extensively in international policy spaces, collaborating on publications intended for diplomats, parliamentarians, and policy researchers. That long exposure to the content side has made me a better designer for clients whose work lives at this intersection.
I do my best work when I know who will be consuming the information, how they think and feel. The message needs to land whether the reader goes deep or skims.
I'm not the right person to design a loud supermarket discount leaflet, but I will craft a beautiful magazine or annual report that fits the visual voice of your organization.
My designs are never cold or clinical. I inject enough warmth and beauty to carry the right emotion, but never so much that it drowns the message.
Good publication design isn’t only about making things look right. It’s about making sure the message lands with the reader. That’s the part of the work I care about most, and it’s where I tend to add the most value.
I take genuine interest in how the world works. I’m able to engage with the subject matter of a publication — policy frameworks, data, technical concepts — and help clients translate complex material into clear, well-structured designs for broader audiences. I particularly enjoy developing infographic concepts together with clients, and helping them structure their publications so that their message reaches the audience as intended.
In practice, this means I can be more than a layout designer on your project. I can be your first reader and test audience, and tell you if something is unclear. Before the design phase begins, I can help shape the publication itself: chapter structure, editorial flow, the conceptual design of complex infographics. The earlier we talk, the more this kind of thinking can add. It’s what I call conceptual partnership.
I’m the kind of person who always likes learning something new. My interests range widely — from architecture, art, and interior design to politics, sociology, psychology, and technology. I love travelling and getting to know new cultures. I take on projects that align with my values, which is also the reason I tend to care about my clients’ work as much as they do.
If we seem like a good fit, I’d love to hear about your project.
